Lassa Fever Hits Seven States In Nigeria, Kills Six

The Federal Government on Monday raised the alarm over an increasing number of Lassa fever cases since December 2016 and advised that increased attention should be focussed on prevention and preparedness.

The government specifically confirmed the death of six persons out of 19 confirmed cases of Lassa fever in seven states.

Police Arraign 20-Year Old Housemaid For Stealing N700k

The police have arraigned a 20-year-old housemaid, Loveth Emmanuel, before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N700,000 from the safes of her boss, identified only as Rufus.

It was alleged that the suspect used a stick of broom to open four safes and stole the money at their residence on Sholanke Street in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State.

She was alleged to have attempted to flee when the boss alerted policemen from the Denton division, who arrested her.

A woman from Brighton is waking up to chaos on Twitter after having been singled out by Donald Trump as his daughter.

The president-elect quoted a praiseworthy tweet directed to him by Lawrence Goodstein, a Twitter user in Seekonk in Massachusetts, that described his daughter Ivanka as “a woman with real character and class” late on Monday.

The man accused of killing 39 people in a nightclub in Turkey on New Year's Eve has been captured by Turkish police in Istanbul.

Alleged ISIS militant Abdulkadir Masharipov was wanted in connection with the shooting spree which left nearly 70 injured.

Police arrested five people, including the alleged gunman, state-run Anadolu news agency says. 
Masharipov is said to have been caught in the Istanbul district of Esenyurt.

Heartbreaking! Gambia President-Elect Adama Barrow's 8-Year Old Son Killed By Dog

The son of Gambia's President-elect Adama Barrow has died after being bitten by a dog.

Eight-year-old Habibu Barrow is reported to have died on the way to the hospital on Sunday in Manjai near the Gambian capital Banjul.

Mr Barrow missed his son's funeral as he was advised to remain in Senegal for his safety.

The regional body Ecowas has asked Mr Barrow to stay in Senegal until Thursday - the planned date of the inauguration long before now.

The Professor who died in the twin suicide bomb blasts at a mosque in University of Maiduguri on Monday morning has be identified as Professor Aliyu Mani. At least four people were killed in a suspected suicide bomb attack at a university campus, a local resident, a lecturer and emergency services said on Monday.

The blast happened at 5:25 am (0425 GMT) at a mosque in the staff quarters area of the University of Maiduguri and is thought to have been carried out by a teenager. Suspicion will likely fall on the Islamist group Boko Haram, which has repeatedly used young women and girls as human bombs to target worshippers.

Man Allegedly Kills Friend Over N500 Dog Meat In Lagos

27-year-old welder, Sunday Hycenth, has been arrested by the Lagos state Police command for allegedly killing his friend, Onwe Ozoemelem, over a N500 dog meat.

The incident reportedly happened in the FESTAC Town area of the state. According to PUNCH Metro, Hycenth and 26-year-old Ozoemelem had engaged in fisticuffs over the dog meat bought by their friend.

Sunday allegedly hit the deceased, Onwe with fist blows on the chest, after which he slumped and was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

Zimbabwean Police arrests Prophet who said President Mugabe will die this year

Last week, the leader of Kariba Church in Zimbabwe, Prophet Patrick Mugadza was quoted to have said:

‘I just want to tell you something concerning the year 2017. It is a very special year because of number seven and at the same time also, 2017 collides with 37 years by which Zanu PF has been ruling this beautiful nation of Zimbabwe, but something is going to be happening also, which is very critical for us to know. It was on the 26th of December 2016 when I was in prayer and God said to me this coming year 2017 the President is dying and he told me that he is dying on 17th of October.’

Indian man in Police custody for r*ping 200 underage girls

A New Delhi Police official has disclosed the arrest of an Indian man, Sunil Rastogi who confessed to assaulting over 200 underage girls in the past 12 years.

The 38-year-old  tailor was arrested in eastern Delhi over the weekend after investigations into sexual attacks on young girls led the police to him.

Following Rastogi’s arrest this weekend, women’s rights activists demanded strict action against the alleged sexual predator, with some calling for the death penalty.

Photos: Turkish Cargo Plane Crash Wipes Out Entire Village Including Six Children

A Turkish cargo plane has crashed in Kyrgyzstan killing at least 37 people. It is however expected to rise after dozens of homes were engulfed in fire and destroyed in the village of Dacha-Suu.

At least six children were killed, and many are injured. One nine year old boy had left early for school in a neighbouring village and ran back to his home to find his entire family killed.

The Boeing 747 went down near Manas airport as it tried to land in dense fog, officials said.
